Day: 10 October 2022

Littlemore vs Harwell

Who would have thought that early October would bless us with conditions more recognisable during British summertime.

Warm and dry conditions would certainly provide much running rugby.

Littlemore won the toss, and opted to kick things off at the start. Harwell were quick to set the pace of the game, with repeated attacks into the Littlemore half of the pitch. Littlemore defended their try line like their lives depended on it, and numerous handling errors saw Harwell kept at bay for most of the first half.

Some early changes due to injury, and with Littlemore having to move players round, saw Harwell take advantage of the mis-matches and run in under the posts.

Littlemore eventually managed to strike back late in the half with some deft footwork from no 9 Vinny Mnguni, setting off from inside his own half and being stopped just short of the try line for his efforts. Unfortunately for him, he was injured in the tackle, and took a well needed rest in the sideline.

His efforts didn’t go unrewarded. Littlemore managed to touch down beneath the posts for their first of the day just before half time.

The second half would provide more entertainment for the sideline of supporters. Tries came thick and fast throughout the half for Harwell- and so did the yellow cards! Littlemore losing one in the early stages of the second half, and Harwell receiving 3 in quick succession. Unfortunately for Littlemore, the more experienced Harwell kept any advancing efforts locked out, and managed to quickly turn defensive efforts into an attack.

On the final whistle, it was smiles all round. A great effort from the boys in blue and white, with back row, Grant Wilson being award man of the match, and second row Von Sims picking up his 3rd consecutive donkey of the day.
Full credit to the @harwellrufc squad. A pleasure to host you today, and we thank you for sticking around following the game. Good luck for the season. We look forward to the return fixture after Christmas.
