Littlemore reprised their rivalry of past seasons this afternoon with a friendly (no one told Lammin) match against Gosford All Blacks II. Having been moved into different leagues with the reshuffle at the end of last season, this was the first meeting between the sides in over a year. ![]()
Littlemore trickled out of the changing rooms thirty minutes before kick-off, and a slick-looking All Blacks side was already running moves at the other end of the pitch. Dickerson was slated to play on the wing, but after a few too many Friday night beverages, he found the backs warm-up a bit fast-paced and negotiated a swap into the back row, with veteran Lammin taking his place at 11. It looked like it would be a challenging afternoon, up against a Gosford side unbeaten this season in their new league. ![]()
After a delayed start while twenty-nine men waited on the pitch for Jack Crudgington to go and find a mouthguard, the game kicked off under glorious sunshine at Stratfield Brake. Littlemore quickly switched on and took an early lead through a Will Massey try. ![]()
They looked to be on for a second, but a well-read intercept in the midfield saw Gosford run the length and score under the posts. Gosford followed up with a second try, but Littlemore fought hard to end the half, working their way inside the Gosford 22, where two yellow cards saw the All Blacks reduced to thirteen. A quick tap penalty caught them napping, and Crudgington fought over the line to make it 14-10 to Gosford at half-time. ![]()
Littlemore received the ball to begin the second half with a two-person advantage but failed to capitalise, and the next ten minutes saw Gosford return to their full complement of players. Meanwhile, Littlemore suffered one red card for fighting (D Lammin), followed by another quickly for a high shot (W Gilchrist). ![]()
With the two-player advantage reversed and a three-pointer kicked by Gosford, thirteen-man Littlemore needed a moment of inspiration. Up stepped Will Massey to score another two tries in quick succession, completing his hat-trick and earning him a well-deserved man-of-the-match title. Next, Crudgington would score his second of the day, converting it himself and bringing the score to 17-27.![]()
Not content with the ten-point margin, the thirteen men in blue and white pressed their dominance to work back up the pitch to a line-out on the 5-metre line. Flanker-by-necessity, Dickerson received the ball on a great hard line and barrelled over for the game's last try, converted by Jack Massey, making it 24 points unanswered from thirteen-man Littlemore.
The referee's whistle ended the game with a final score of GAB II 17, LRFC 34. ![]()
On a day when there are two red cards, and neither is for a Massey, anything is possible. Come on, Littlemore.
